Azline was born in Chicago, IL, and raised in Waterloo, IA. She became a Gates Millennium Scholar in 2009 and attended Spelman College, graduating cum laude, and majoring in International Studies. Azline curated her love for French culture through her high school language classes and a class trip to France. This experience opened the world for Azline and influenced her cosmopolitan mindset. Seeking further exposure to the international community, Azline studied abroad in Fort-de-France, Martinique, and Geneva, Switzerland to expand her knowledge of French culture and francophone civilization. Subsequently, she developed an interest in tourism and business development as an avenue to explore the intersection of emerging markets, economics, and consumer travel demand.
Azline graduated from Spelman and started a 7-year career at Delta Air Lines in Atlanta, working within pricing and revenue management across Australia, Thailand, Ghana, and Nigeria. She executed the leisure and business passenger pricing strategies for international markets and aided in the transformation in which Delta led to de-commoditize the in-flight experience for customers. Fascinated by Delta’s approach to elevate its brand equity globally, she joined the Sales Development team to support travel agents within the Asia Pacific region, helping to structure and negotiate pricing contracts. These professional experiences informed her negotiations and economics acumen. She also gained an intimate perspective of brand management within diverse communities and enhanced her know how towards meaningful interactions that influence customers perception of products and services.
Over the past decade, Azline has nurtured her passion for mentorship and advocacy for educational opportunities in underserved communities; her humble beginnings are the driving force behind her ambition. Azline is a mentor and motivational speaker for the Classic Upward Bound program, leading workshops for first-generation students applying to college. She serves as a board member and advisor to God’s Butterfly Effect.
Azline started her journey as a writer to encourage others to travel abroad and learn about life through different cultures. In 2018, she became a global correspondent for the Soultown Magazine and shares her global interactions within the African diaspora. Azline was invited to create a column, sponsored by Poets and Quants, that discussed her Wharton MBA journey and shares best practices to maximize opportunities within the business school ecosystem. This has evolved into an interactive column in which Azline interviews young Black Alumni from Wharton to discuss their post grad life, accomplishments and share words of wisdom for current MBA students.
Azline graduated from the Wharton School and the Lauder Institute with her MBA in Finance and her Master of Arts in International Studies, focused on French African studies. Business school was a special time for Azline, whereby she refined her global leadership attributes across the start-up ecosystem in Africa. In 2021, she became the first Black woman to win the Jacobson global Venture Award to support a budding retail company in Dakar, Senegal, across fundraising and strategy. Simultaneously, Azline worked as an MBA venture Fellow for Oze, a fintech start-up in Ghana focused on digitizing accounting and credit expansion for microentrepreneurs. Her development of a micro lending tool to support local entrepreneurs aligns with her passion for business development and entrepreneurship in Africa.
Azline participated in the Wharton Africa Investment Partners (WAIP) program and her project focused on executing due diligence, and creating a go-to-market strategy for an African company based in Sierra Leone. Within the WAIP community, Azline served as the Director of Communications to manage the digital newsletter and promotes awareness for African culture. The sum of her Wharton business school experiences enabled Azline’s long-term goal to become well-versed in building a global market strategies across emerging markets.
Azline stayed in Philadelphia and currently works for The Vanguard Group. Her current role as a program manager enables her to combine her passion for strategic business development and technology. Within this role, she is focused on evolving the global sourcing model to accommodate future technical talent within the workforce. She is tasked with helping Vanguard open its newest location in Hyderabad, India focused on technology services.
In her free time, Azline is an admission consultant, coach, and motivator for first generation candidates looking to pursue graduate school. She actively participates in TRiO events to mentor the next generation of leaders, volunteers in Philadelphia, and is focused on earning her Certified Financial Planning (CFP) credentials to increase financial literacy. Azline hopes to serve on a junior non-profit board that focuses on education or financial literacy for minority communities.
